Autumn mornings are cold, afternoons are warm, and your outfit has to handle both. Good layering is the answer.
The three-layer formula
- Base: a fitted tee, a thin turtleneck or a shirt
- Middle: a fine knit, a cardigan or an overshirt
- Outer: a trench, a wool coat or a quilted jacket
Play with texture
When your palette is neutral, texture keeps it interesting. Try mixing chunky knit with smooth leather, or soft cashmere with crisp cotton.
The scarf is your secret weapon
A big, soft scarf adds warmth, frames the face and brings in colour. Rust, camel, olive and burgundy are especially flattering in autumn light.
Keep proportions balanced
If the top half is bulky, keep the bottom slim, and vice versa. A belt over a long cardigan or coat can also bring back your waist.
